Nov 20, 2003

JobStreet.com releases data for top hiring industries and demand in Job specializations in Malaysia, and Salary Reports for Top paying Senior Management and Fresh Graduates positions.

JobStreet.com, Asia’s leading online recruitment company, releases the latest recruitment trends based on job specializations and industries which are actively recruiting on its site, www.jobstreet.com. It also publishes the Top Five highest paying Senior Management positions and Top Five highest paying Fresh Graduates positions.

Says Suresh Thiru, Vice President, Operations, JobStreet.com: “JobStreet.com currently has a strong and growing client base both in Malaysia and the region of over 10,000 companies, consisting of many multinationals and small and medium industries. Hence, we are in a good position to track the industries that are actively recruiting and also the top demand in the various job specialisations.”

“Overall, for a six-month period from May to October 2003, the number of jobs on JobStreet.com Malaysia increased by over 40%,” says Suresh Thiru. “This growth in the number of jobs on JobStreet.com clearly espouses the strength in our economic recovery post-Iraq war and SARS,” he adds.

For the next quarter and beyond, Suresh expects the number of jobs on JobStreet.com to continue to record a healthy increase, barring any unforeseen negative influence. Malaysia's economic outlook remained strong, with Prime Minister Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi predicting GDP growth of six per cent for 2004. He had also recently announced that the economic growth for 2003 would be 4.5 per cent, up from 4.1 per cent in 2002.

For the six-month period from May to October 2003, the top 10 industries that are hiring are (in descending order according to the number of jobs):

1. Manufacturing

“For example, for the third quarter of 2003, the Industrial Production Index rose by 8.5% to 211.9 as against that of 195.3 reported for the corresponding quarter of last year. The increase was in tandem with the expansion of all sectors: 10.6% in the index of the Manufacturing Sector (to 234.6 from that of 212.2); 3.7% in the index of the Electricity Sector (to 245.2 from that of 236.4); and 0.7% in the index of the Mining Sector (to 128.5 from that of 127.6). “We can also observe that this is supported by a vibrant Manufacturing Sector which recorded a sales value worth RM30.51 billion in September 2003, a surge of RM3 billion or 10.9 % over that of RM27.51 billion attained in September last year. [Source: also Statistics Department of Malaysia]”
