Candidates with skills in Information Technology/Computing are in greatest indemand by employers advertizing on JobStreet.com, with jobs requiring these skills making up about 16 per cent of all jobs advertized on the website during the Second Quarter of 2007.

The demand has been increasing over the past year and exceeds the increase in the talent pool. Overall, IT jobs grew by 90 percent in Q2 2007 when compared with Q2 2006.

The largeest increase was in Software Development where the number of jobs advertized on the JobStreet Malaysia website rose by 105 per cent in Q2 2007 compared to Q2 2006. People with network and database administration skills are also in big demand. In Q2 2007, jobs for this group of candidates registered a 77 per cent increase on a year-to-year basis.

Dr Albert Wong, JobStreet.com's chief technology officer, said: "We see good job prospects for people who are in the IT and Computer field. There is no shortage of jobs and the demand for good and qualified candidates is growing. We are seeing jobs increasing faster than the supply of new graduates in IT in recent years, with good graduates getting jobs even before they graduate. The trend is similar globally resulting in a number of overseas companies sourcing for candidates locally to benefit from the availabilty of quality talent along with the cost benefit of operating in Malaysia."

According to MDeC Vice-President Ms Ng Wan Peng: "The claim that there are few jobs for ICT graduates is not true. MSC Malaysia status companies have approached us to assist them to find the right candidates to fill vacancies at their organizations. Companies are looking for candidates with industry relevant skills. Fresh graduates need to develop the right skills and attributes that employers are looking for. These attributes include the ability to communicate well in English and the ability to solve problems."

By comparison, the next two areas in top demand on JobStreet.com that require candidates to have skills in General/Cost Accounting and Electronics/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering grew by 61.1 per cent and 11per cent respectively.
