Kuala Lumpur, 10 November 2007

150 undergraduates and graduates are now better prepared to find a job or to be an entrepreneur after attending the Employment & Entrepreneurship Career Talk (EECT 2007), a free seminar organized by ANXI Youth Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan (ANXI Youth), the Youth wing of a Chinese clan association.

EECT 2007, held at the Novotel Hydro Majestic Hotel today, was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr. Fong Chan Onn, Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia. The objective of EECT 2007 is to prepare final year graduates and unemployed graduates for the competitive employment and entrepreneurship market.

"EECT 2007 is more than a talk. Besides the opportunity to gain insights from HR professionals and entrepreneurs, it also incorporates field visits to high-growth Malaysian corporations where participants can have direct dialogue on employment issues with the senior management of respective corporations, namely, Ann Joo Group, Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad, Stanta Metal Drum and Tan Chong Group, all founded by ANXI entrepreneurs. About 80 graduates will be able to join the field visits on 21 & 28 Nov 2007. Participants will have the opportunity to observe the real working environment of these companies and to talk to employers on what they can expect from them," says Mr Yap Keng Teck, Organising Committee Chairman of EECT 2007.

EECT 2007 had invited reputable speakers including HR Professionals and Young Entrepreneurs. The speakers are:
  • Abdul Jalil Mohd Taib, General Manager – International HR of Petronas

Preparing your career in a borderless economy, by En Abdul Jalil Mohd Taib, General Manager- International HR of Petronas
Are you ready to be hired?, by M. Simon Si, Vice President – Marketing & Business Development of Jobstreet Bhd
Look for a job, career or to be an entrepreneur?, by Mr Neela Mehan, Vice President – Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management
"I must say that I am pleased to see Chinese clan associations playing a major role in preparing and exposing graduates to the employment market and entrepreneurship challenges. I believe this is the first time a Chinese clan association is organising such a unique and meaningful event targeting graduates," says YB Datuk Seri Dr. Fong Chan Onn, Minister of Human Resources Malaysia.

"ANXI Association has many successful entrepreneurs. This includes our legendary Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, the founder of Genting Group. The participating corporations for EECT 2007 - Ann Joo Resources Group, Kian Joo Can Factory Group, Tan Chong Group and Stanta Metal Drum Sdn Bhd - are all successful corporations built by ANXI veterans. All participants should treasure the opportunity and seek advice from them.

"This is the second time ANXI Youth has organized events which are open to all races. Nearly half of the participants are Malays despite organized by a Chinese clan association. This clearly demonstrated the spirit of Malaysian. English is the main communication language. In business world, you have to have strong command of English, failing which you won’t grow far in this borderless economy," added Keng Teck.

According to Mr Julian Tan, President of ANXI Youth, "Chinese clan associations and youth divisions have to evolve to engage the youth. The lifestyles and expectations of the youth today are very different 10 or even five years ago. Our role will not be only to maintain fellowship among ANXI descendents but to organise activities which are beneficial to the youth and near to their heart. The society is changing, the youth is changing and we too have to change."

Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad is the Main Sponsor for EECT 2007. Jobstreet.com is the Marketing Partner and Mayflower is the Official Transporter for field visits.
