Jobstreet by SEEK Issues Public Warning on Rising Recruitment Scams in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 April 2025 – In response to an alarming rise of job scams in Malaysia, Jobstreet by SEEK has issued a public alert to warn and educate jobseekers in a bid to protect them from falling victim to fraudulent job offers.
In recent months, user reports have indicated a sharp spike in scam activity. According to data from Jobstreet by SEEK’s customer service team, a total of 142 scam-related user reports were recorded between August 2024 and March 2025. The highest surge was noted in December 2024, with 65 cases logged that month alone. These figures reflect only officially reported cases—many more are likely to go unrecorded through informal or unverified channels.
The platform has observed a rise in impersonation scams, particularly involving messages via WhatsApp and other unofficial platforms falsely claiming to represent Jobstreet.
Scammers are known to send misleading messages such as “Your Resume Has Been Approved,” luring individuals into sharing sensitive personal information or making upfront payments in exchange for fake job opportunities. These tactics prey on the urgency and optimism of jobseekers, often causing serious financial and emotional harm.
Key Scams to Watch For
Jobstreet by SEEK recently outlined several major scams affecting Malaysians in its Top Job Scams to Watch for in 2025 listicle, including:
Cryptocurrency Task Fraud: Requests for upfront crypto payments for simple online tasks.
Money Mule Scams: Fake job roles used to launder stolen funds through victim bank accounts.
Identity Theft: Fake postings used to steal personal and financial data.
Impersonation Scams: Scammers pretending to be Jobstreet representatives via messaging platforms.
