How to level up your HR manager resume

Here are some pointers for improving your HR Manager resume to show employers that you are the candidate for the job.

1. Begin with your professional summary and aims

Start strong with an executive summary of who you are and what you can do for the company. Present your professional vision and objectives. Show how you plan to use your skills and experience to achieve measurable results for the organisation.

Here is an example:

Human resource manager with more than 5 years experience handling HR tasks. Experienced in managing performance, implementing Talent Management Systems, managing payroll, and supervising benefits. Adept strategist applying HR tools to boost employee performances to reach company targets. Personally motivated to lead people towards synergy and successfully achieving set goals.

2. Customise by focusing on primary skills

Choose your relevant technical and transferable skills. Bring them up front in your resume in the skills section. As an HR professional yourself, you understand the volume of applications that employers go through. Only the resumes that stand out will be read end to end.

Hook them in with your professional summary and keep them interested in your specific strengths. Study the job description carefully. Tailor your skills to the requirements of the work.

Here are some sample skills you can highlight:

Transferable Skills

  1. Leadership
  2. Organisation
  3. Communication
  4. Working with a team
  5. Problem-solving

Technical Skills

  1. Proficiency in Talent Management Systems (TMS)
  2. Employee Relations
  3. Performance Management
  4. Payroll Management
  5. Workplace Safety

3. Present past work experience in relevant detail

Showcase past jobs and what you achieved in the positions you occupied. Starting with the current down to your first, list the company names, dates of work, and job positions held. This gives employers a fresh perspective on your recent work at a glance.

Describe in detail what your duties were and present actual performance output. Explain how you applied technical and transferable skills in specific positions, areas of work, and responsibilities.

Employers may use an app that identifies keywords in your resume. Study the job ad so you can echo keywords used.
