Sometimes, things fall into place in a way that you least expect. For Sandy Huang, the Regional Head Head of Fulfillment Business Process Owners (BPO) in Lazada Singapore, her career path wasn’t clear at the beginning.
“When I started out 20 years ago in my career, I just wanted to do my job well,” Sandy shares in an episode of JobStreet’s Quality Connections podcast. It was hard work and the guidance of good mentors that made Sandy realise that she’s ready for bigger and better opportunities.

Today, Sandy’s career has led her to the logistics arm of Lazada. For the past two years, she has been managing the fulfilment processes behind the e-commerce giant’s extensive platform. A fast-paced environment with multiple processes going on at the same time, working at Lazada truly exemplifies one of their core values that “change is the only constant.”
Sandy gamely shares her career journey with host Anita Woo – how she got into logistics, her gradual move up the career ladder, and eventually, what led her to Lazada.
She also talks about what she has learned from her previous roles. How did she turn her strengths into weaknesses? How does she make sure that she continues improving on her skills and capabilities? How did she bounce back after making mistakes?
She even bravely shares one funny mistake on her first day at a new job. “Oh my God, I [wanted] to dig a hole in the ground and hide myself – and that was my first day!” she laughingly recalls.
With two decades of work experience under her belt, Sandy has a wealth of stories that jobseekers can learn from. When she once looked to her mentors and colleagues for advice, now she too imparts her own nuggets of wisdom.
In the podcast, Sandy shares tips on the job hiring and job-seeking process. As a hiring manager, she describes the important traits she looks for when adding someone to her team. Job interviews are crucial to the hiring process, and it’s where hopeful jobseekers can pitch themselves for the role.
Sandy also offers advice to different groups of jobseekers looking for their dream roles. What a fresh grad needs to know on their first foray into the job hunt scene is significantly different from someone who is already in the middle of their career and forging a new path for themselves.
She encourages jobseekers to be brave and face challenges head-on. “Put yourself out there and let people find you as well. Get out of your comfort zone and don’t give up.”
