1. Write down the responsibilities for your current job and position and master them

Go above and beyond on each and every task you have been assigned. For example, if you are expected to take 60 calls in a day, take 120, if you are expected to complete all paperwork by 4, clear all paperwork for the day as well as the following day. If you are expected to close 10 sales, close 20. Achieve double the amount of task that you are assigned.

2. Attitude is invaluable

At all times use the power of politeness. This is a powerful tool. Use it with co-workers as well as clients. Even on your worst days, try and smile and keep your eye focused on the goal. Your attitude can be a ladder breaker if it is projecting a negative energy. If you need some help in this area, you can practice at home or do research on corporate etiquette suggestions at your local library or online. This is a very important area to master in the journey to effectively climbing the corporate ladder.

3. Be on time

Report to work 15 to 20 minutes early. Build a reputation for being punctual and reliable.  This is important for all aspects of your job; whether it’s being on time to work, to a meeting, or reaching a deadline.

4. Initiate innovative ideas which can help your organization improve their bottom line

Think of what you can do differently that will result in ways to improve customer service relations or save money. This is a boss pleaser each and every time. If you make your boss shine you will shine too.

5. Never submit sub-standard work

Always strive to submit succinct detailed work which captures other people's attention. The compliments which you receive will build your reputation for an excellent work and will put you in a position of high demand from other departments within the company.

6. Take the lead

Save all the letters written about you that reference appreciation from customers and make sure you share them with your boss. Provide guidance and support to co-workers who are new to the organization. Assisting other employees to become better will make your team stronger and positions you as a leader.

7. Use networking skills

Go to any after work events which your organization offers to build relationships with others. It will allow you to network with other people in other departments and allow them to place a face with a name. This will also build your repute and allows you to use your skills to position you ahead of the rest.

If you focus on these key steps you will position yourself to climb the corporate ladder very quickly and successfully.
