Do you have a passion for storytelling and coming up with creative ideas? Do you have skills in strategy and communication? If so, then the field of digital marketing may be for you.

Before talking about the job roles in digital marketing, let us first define what it is.

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing is basically the selling or promoting products through digital or electronic devices, including radio, television, and the Internet. Nowadays, online marketing covers a vast majority of strategies. Particularly, smaller businesses who use social media as their main selling and advertising platform benefit from online marketing.

While there are many functions that allow a digital marketing agency to operate, there are some general skills required in a digital marketing dream team. First of all, you must have a basic understanding of the customer journey. You must also know the most effective ways for you to communicate your brand’s products and services to them.

Digital marketers are also experts at conceptualising campaigns that tell the brand’s story in a way that attracts customers.

Additionally, you must also know the different channels where you can create awareness about your client such as JobStreet Ads. Clients want to make sure that you are spending their advertising budget wisely, so they will expect you to analyse and recommend channels where they will get noticed.

Now that you have an idea about what digital marketing is, here is a breakdown of the most common entry-level job roles you will find.

Social Media Manager

As a social media manager, you are responsible for engaging followers on all online platforms where your brand is present; creating strategies to establish brand awareness on social media; working closely with the Creatives team to develop and promote content that encourages customers to continuously visit your brand’s pages and eventually purchase from your business.

Content Strategist

As the content strategist, your main goal is to bring in new customers and retain loyal ones by creating and overseeing a content strategy using blog posts, social media posts, electronic newsletters, videos and more. At a smaller agency, Content Strategists may also be expected to double as the content writer, while others may have a Copywriter on the team.

Copywriter

Using the insights and strategies from the Social Media Manager and Content Strategist, you are responsible for writing content that captures the customer’s interest.

As a copywriter, you need to know how to write for a variety of channels. You can be tasked to write social media captions or compose lines for short videos optimised for mobile.

Graphic Designer

Content will not be complete without eye-catching visuals which are the masterpieces of Graphic Designers. As the designer, you work with the Copywriter to accompany their words with showstopping visuals. Other forms of content you may be asked to create are video reels, memes, or gifs.

SEO Specialist

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. As an SEO specialist, you are the keyword master. Your main objective is to make your client’s website or social media accounts easy to find by conducting keyword searches and using tracking tools like Google Analytics.

Additionally, you will help the Copywriter, Content Strategist, and Social Media Manager stay updated with related terms and the changing requirements of search engines to achieve a high visibility level online.

Account Manager or Account Executive

The Account Manager is the liaison between the agency and the client. You are the key person for relaying the client’s brief and requirements to your agency’s creative team. As the client advocate, you must have problem-solving skills especially during instances of miscommunication between the client and the agency; you must also be able to guide your client regarding marketing strategies and current marketing trends.

As you can see, the roles in a digital marketing team are interconnected. Digital marketing involves a collaborative process that utilises the talents of different individuals in order to achieve the best results.

Employees find #JobsThatMatter in digital marketing because they enjoy sharing ideas with their teammates, connecting people with brands that will make their lives better, and bringing brands to the right customers who truly believe in them.
