What's it like to be an Accounting Manager?
As an Accounting Manager, your primary role will be to oversee financial transactions within an organisation, which may vary from small businesses to multinational corporations. Your responsibilities will likely include managing a company's budget, conducting internal audits and supervising a team of accountants. An Accounting Manager often develops and implements financial policies, ensuring compliance with regulations and preparing financial statements. They often liaise with auditors and regulatory authorities, and present financial reports to senior management.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing and regulating financial data of a company in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Collaborating with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all financial regulations.
- Managing and supervising accounting department activities and employees for financial record accuracy.
- Maintaining financial policies and systems for effective budgeting and financial management.
- Handling financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable and receivable and credit control.
- Analysing financial reports to identify and explain variances and preparing monthly statements for presentations.
How to become an Accounting Manager
A bachelor degree in accounting, Chartered Accountant qualification and years of experience are required for the role. A master degree is advantageous.
- 1.Graduate with a bachelor degree in accounting.
- 2.Undergo an internship in an accounting firm or department.
- 3.Gain six months of accounting work experience.
- 4.Obtain a qualification with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
- 5.Apply for membership at the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) after three years of work experience.
- 6.Consider obtaining a postgraduate degree such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Science in Accounting (MSA).
