Application Support Specialists are technicians who troubleshoot software issues for both clients and employees. Deployed across various industries, they work with applications, diagnose problems and provide solutions to improve system performance. Their duties might also include configuring systems, maintaining servers, or even providing user training for certain software applications. They often work in teams, supporting network architects and system engineers in executing their tasks.
Tasks and duties
- Providing technical support for application software issues and malfunctions to clients and users.
- Identifying and diagnosing application performance issues and software bugs, then developing and implementing solutions.
- Working closely with application development teams to test, implement and monitor new applications.
- Helping to refine and document application operational procedures and maximise system availability.
- Providing training to users and promoting effective application usage.
- Keeping up-to-date with industry trends in application software for the latest knowledge.
How to become an Application Support Specialist
This position requires previous industry-related experience and at least a diploma. A background in customer service is an advantage.
- 1.Graduate with a diploma or degree in information technology, software engineering, computer science, or another related field.
- 2.Undergo an internship at an IT firm or department.
- 3.Get an entry-level job such as Technical Support Representative.
- 4.Consider getting certifications in relevant software.
