What's it like to be an Assistant Finance Manager?
An Assistant Finance Manager works to help oversee and manage the financial activities and budgeting operations of an organisation. Daily tasks often involve managing invoices, conducting financial analysis, reviewing and implementing financial policies, and preparing annual budget reports. They also aid in the development and execution of growth strategies from a financial perspective, and collaborate with other department heads, providing financial insights and guidance. Assistant Finance Managers work across many sectors including financial services, manufacturing, retail and healthcare.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and reporting variances.
- Performing financial modelling and analysis to support strategic initiatives.
- Assisting in the coordination and preparation of regulatory reporting.
- Collaborating with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Participating in preparation for annual audits.
- Helping to develop and manage financial systems and policies, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Supporting the Finance Manager by contributing to, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
How to become an Assistant Finance Manager
This role typically requires a diploma. An industry-specific degree and previous experience as an Assistant are preferred.
- 1.Complete SPM/STPM or a bachelor degree.
- 2.Gain work experience through freelance or volunteer work or by taking an apprenticeship.
- 3.Consider taking an assistant, administration or secretarial training course.
