What's it like to be an Assistant Project Manager?
An Assistant Project Manager supports with organising, planning and executing various tasks related to project completion. Common responsibilities include tracking project timelines, coordinating team members, assisting with budgeting, reporting progress and communicating effectively with stakeholders. Assistant Project Managers often find themselves in industries such as construction, IT or engineering, although their skills are applicable to any industry requiring project-based work. They often work closely with a Project Manager to ensure project goals are achieved within specified deadlines and budget constraints.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting in the planning and implementation of projects as well as managing schedules and budgets.
- Coordinating with project stakeholders and team members to gather and process project-related information.
- Tracking the progress of different tasks, preparing status reports and other project-related documents.
- Addressing and resolving any issues that arise during the course of a project.
- Contributing to the preparation of project status reports and other documentation.
How to become an Assistant Project Manager
A minimum of a diploma in your industry of choice is required for the role. A bachelor degree and years of industry experience are preferred.
- 1.Complete STPM with the grade and subject requirement for your chosen industry
- 2.Graduate with a diploma or bachelor degree in business management, information technology (IT) or another related field.
- 3.Undergo an internship, freelance job or other work experience related to project management.
- 4.Get an entry-level job in your industry of choice.
- 5.Consider obtaining Project Management Professional certification.
