What's it like to be an Audiologist?
An Audiologist is a licensed hearing healthcare professional that specialises in diagnosing and treating hearing loss and speech issues in both adults and children. Through early detection, Audiologists aim to help correct these problems by assessing and diagnosing cases with their knowledge of clinical research and theoretical studies. These licensed healthcare professionals also prescribe hearing aids and address balancing issues due to hearing loss.
Tasks and duties
- Use technology and medical techniques to assess and diagnose hearing loss.
- Test hearing through specialised test equipment.
- Recommend hearing therapy or specialised speech therapy upon diagnosis.
How to become an Audiologist
To become an Audiologist, you usually need to complete a bachelor degree in audiology. This typically requires 3-4 years of study and can be further expanded with a master's degree and a PhD, which will require an additional 3-7 years of study.

Complete an STPM (Malaysian pre-university examination) with at least a 2.00 CGPA and a C+ in any 2 of the subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics.
- 2.Complete a bachelor degree in audiology.
- 3.Be updated on the latest aural and healthcare technologies and how they can assist in the prevention of hearing disorders or improve hearing healthcare.
