What's it like to be a Business Development Executive?
Business Development Executives help to grow businesses by identifying new market opportunities and driving business relationships. Their main tasks often include conducting market research, nurturing business relationships, strategising business initiatives, and collaborating with sales and marketing departments. They work across a wide range of industries, including technology, pharmaceuticals, retail, and financial sectors.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying potential new markets and new customers to increase business opportunities.
- Developing and executing long-term strategic plans and shorter tactical plans to achieve business goals.
- Generating leads and turning them into opportunities for sales.
- Negotiating with stakeholders and executives to close sales deals.
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients and key personnel within customer companies.
- Tracking sales goals and reporting results to management.
- Understanding the market and keeping up-to-date with industry news and competition.
How to become a Business Development Executive
Diplomas are accepted for this role, although bachelor's degrees are preferred. Relationship building, negotiation and sales skills are advantageous.
- 1.Consider getting a bachelor's degree in marketing, business development, management or another related degree.
- 2.Gain experience through an internship, freelance work and entry-level jobs in sales or marketing.
- 3.Continue to develop a strong business network and knowledge of the latest trends.
