What's it like to be a Front End Developer?
Front End Developers are tech professionals responsible for designing and implementing the visual elements that users interact with on a website or application. In essence, these developers make sure every feature you touch, click or type on works seamlessly. They commonly work alongside UX designers, backend developers and sometimes graphic designers, to make sure the application or website is user-friendly and visually appealing. Front End Developers exist within all major sectors including finance, healthcare, media and wherever there is a need for an interactive web presence.
Tasks and duties
- Designing, building and maintaining user-friendly websites and interfaces for optimal user experience.
- Developing and implementing responsive design for accessibility across a range of devices.
- Utilising programming languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create web pages.
- Working closely with web designers and programmers to bring concepts to life.
- Testing and improving the design of the website for functionality.
- Assuring that all user input is validated before submitting it to the back-end.
- Maintaining high standards of web performance, security and speed.
How to become a Front End Developer
At least a diploma or professional certificate is required for the role. Industry experience and a bachelor degree are an advantage.
- 1.Complete a diploma, certificate or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or another related field.
- 2.Undergo an internship at an IT firm or department.
- 3.Build your portfolio by doing boot camps, freelance and volunteer work in development.
- 4.Consider getting certified in HTML, CSS Python or other programming languages.
