What's it like to be a Logistics Officer?
A Logistics Officer must ensure that the right products are delivered to the right place at the right time. They are mainly tasked to oversee logistics operations. Their job is to talk to suppliers, warehouse staff, and transportation companies to plan and coordinate the flow of goods. Logistics Officers must take care of inventory management and the documentation involved in ingoing and outgoing movement of goods. They also handle the ordering and procurement of goods.
Tasks and duties
- Monitoring and listing inventory and supplies.
- Planning and organising the storage and movement of goods or supplies from one location to another.
- Ensuring delivery schedules run on time.
- Planning efficient transportation routes to ensure smooth delivery.
- Monitoring the timelines of incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Responding to supplier and customer queries.
- Resolving issues with inventory and deliveries.
How to become a Logistics Officer
While there are no formal qualification requirements to become a Logistics Officer, they can improve your employability.

Consider completing a bachelor degree in a relevant field such as supply chain management or business administration. Although a degree is not required, it’s highly regarded by employers.

Gain practical experience within your field. Logistics Officers can have specialisations, like food and beverage or tech. These two fields require very different skills and knowledge when it comes to movement.

Continue to build experience by starting off in an entry-level position, such as a logistical support role.
