What's it like to be a Plant Operator?
A Plant Operator oversees equipment and staff in plants, construction sites and manufacturing settings. They move and install structures using heavy machinery, such as excavators and bulldozers. Plant Operators often maintain and organise the repair of plant equipment, and may train other staff members in the safe operation of equipment.Tasks and duties

How to become a Plant Operator
You don’t need a formal qualification to become a Plant Operator, however technical training for operating equipment is a must. Licences may be required to operate certain equipment and machinery.
- 1.Complete at least secondary education. Knowledge of maths and science will be highly beneficial.
- 2.Gain experience in an industrial setting to get exposure to the working environment.
- 3.Get training in safety and environmental standards, as well as licences for operating plant equipment. Some companies require candidates to have specific licences.
- 4.Consider taking a course in plant operation, boiler and steam plant management, or a bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Formal education, along with years of experience, is an advantage in reaching the position of plant operator.
