A Purchasing Officer can work in a variety of settings, from retail and manufacturing to healthcare and public administration. They also handle tasks related to evaluating potential suppliers and overseeing contracts.
Tasks and duties
- Analysing the purchase needs of an organisation and determining the necessary goods or services required.
- Preparing and issuing purchase orders and contracts in accordance with procurement specifications.
- Managing relationships with vendors and suppliers and resolving any arising issues.
- Evaluating potential suppliers, considering factors such as price, quality and that they meeting the needs of an organisation.
- Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve the best possible value for an organisation.
- Maintaining records of purchases, pricing and other important data.
