What's it like to be a Relationship Manager?
A Relationship Manager helps to foster and maintain business relationships with key clients or customers. Their responsibilities include understanding client needs, developing relationships and presenting solutions for successful partnerships. Relationship Managers often work with an array of internal departments to ensure client satisfaction. Industry settings can range from banking institutions to technology companies, and many Relationship Managers often deal directly with high-profile clients within finance, sales or public relations.
Tasks and duties
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients and key personnel within companies.
- Conducting regular client reviews to ensure their needs are being met and to identify any potential areas of improvement.
- Alerting clients to new or improved products and services to meet their needs.
- Resolving areas of concern or disputes raised by clients.
- Collaborating with internal departments to meet client satisfaction.
- Managing a portfolio of accounts and seeking opportunities to generate new business.
How to become a Relationship Manager
At least a diploma is required for the role. Experience in customer service is an advantage.
- 1.Complete a diploma or bachelor degree in business, sales, marketing, or another related field.
- 2.Complete an internship that involves handling customers and clients.
- 3.Get an entry-level job such as Customer Success Officer, Sales Representative or Community Moderator, gaining years of industry and leadership experience.
- 4.Consider getting a Master in Business Administration (MBA).
