What's it like to be a Systems Analyst?
Systems Analysts work with business software, hardware, and information technology systems to develop solutions that enhance productivity and efficiency. Systems Analysts are like a company's IT investigators—they take a close look at existing IT systems to figure out causes of errors by monitoring different applications, databases, and networks. They typically work with a team of developers and programmers to design and test improvements to IT systems. They also function as a link between the organisation's IT and non-IT stakeholders.Tasks and duties
- Gathering and analysing system information.
- Conducting tests and studies to monitor IT systems under development.
- Preparing project plans and proposals on the use of IT resources and budget.
- Training users in the adoption of new business systems and technologies.
- Researching new industry trends or opportunities to increase automation.
How to become a Systems Analyst
Fluency in programming languages such as Java, SQL and JSON, as well as testing knowledge using Python, Selenium, and the like, is the Systems Analyst’s top priority and tool in the field.
- 1.Attain at least a diploma, college degree, postgraduate or professional degree in business and computer science, information technology, or an equivalent IT course.
- 2.Secure relevant certification in programming languages such as Java, SQL and JSON, as well as testing knowledge using Python and Selenium.
- 3.Seek experience in a systems development role. Different companies will require different levels of expertise and industry specialisations.
