What's it like to be a Taxation Assistant?
A Taxation Assistant works closely with tax professionals in managing and producing data and documents for individuals, businesses or organisations. The duties associated with this role can include gathering financial records, helping to prepare tax returns, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Taxation Assistants may support planning strategies, contribute to tasks such as analysing data for potential tax savings and keeping abreast of changing laws. They typically operate in sectors such as finance, consultancy, the public and business sectors.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting in the preparation and filing of tax documents for individuals or businesses.
- Gathering and maintaining records of all tax payments and returns.
- Staying updated with tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with taxation rules.
- Identifying potential tax credits and liabilities to provide accurate advice.
- Working collaboratively with accountants to organise and analyse financial reports necessary for filing tax returns.
- Helping to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to taxation.
- Providing administrative support to senior tax associates or managers.
How to become a Taxation Assistant
At least a diploma in accounting is typically required for the role. This is an entry-level position with work experience not mandatory but preferred.
- 1.Get a minimum of 2Ds at A-Level and 2Cs in your Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM).
- 2.Complete a diploma or bachelor degree in accounting.
- 3.Undergo an internship at an accounting firm or department.
- 4.Gain six months of work experience.
- 5.Consider obtaining a qualification with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
