Good exposure; range of legal matters
The good thingsGiven independence to manage matters, which helps accelerate the learning curve. Quite a wide variety of legal matters allows for good exposure. Fellow colleagues are helpful. Location in the city centre is also convenient with lots of lunch options around.
The challengesAs the firm deals with varied matters, expected to get up to speed quickly on different areas, which can be challenging. Management policies can be restrictive at times, but manageable.

Stingy bosses and poor legal knowledge
The good thingsGood environment. Friendly colleagues.
The challengesThe bosses are very stingy and will try save costs at the expense of the employees. Keep changing their policy as they wish. There is not enough experienced lawyers in the firm to guide pupils and new lawyers. Employees are not appreciated. The turnover rate is very high and they are not doing their best to keep their employees. Poor legal knowledge.

Good environment but poor management and communication
The good thingsClose knit and warm working environment with seasonal levels of busy. Colleagues are helpful and friendly. Dispatch is mostly available so you don’t ever have to do dispatch unless urgent matter. They hold staff meetings and lawyer meetings which keeps everyone in check but mostly ineffective because of response.
The challengesSome partners can be nasty and throw tantrums. Lack of management and each person usually does the same thing because they’ve done it previously, therefore professional development in terms of breadth becomes restricted. No senior associate to bridge the gap between partner and chambee. Feels like they’re always trying to fill the gaps of lack of expertise. Also they are somewhat of a miser with claims.
