Good slickline companyThe good thingsLearning about slickline, seeing all the equipment, learning from the senior operators. Very flexible and easy-going management. Family-run business, whereby the top management are run by a band of brothers and their son(s). Most of the brothers are friendly and likeable. The company has a culture of treating everyone like family. They have a huge workshop in KSB and a smaller one in ASB. Excellent work culture, and excellent people. It easy to fit right in with your colleagues. If they do well, they will give you a bonus.
The challengesNot much guidance will be given as an engineer. You're expected to ask a lot on your own and either sink or swim. An assistant or operator would be given quite a lot of hands-on training. Lots of idle time in between jobs offshore for assistants and operators. Engineers would be doing mostly paperwork and collating QA/QC certificates as well as managing assistants and operators, as well as answering a lot of technical questions about slickline equipment from the client. More training and attention should be given to new engineers in order to fully on-board them and so that they wouldn't feel lost and overwhelmed. Not much employment of non-Bumiputera people in this company. More than 95% of employees are Bumiputera. Diversity is severely lacking. Perhaps hire more Indians, Chinese and Mat Salleh.
