    Software Engineer Intern

Kuala Lumpur Sentral Kuala LumpurLess than 1 year in the role, former employee
Very insightful and hands on, with extremely patient and encouraging seniors.
The good thingsAs a Software Engineering Intern, I had a wonderful experience learning from and working with the Megatron Development Team in IPay88. I was able to learn from a number of talented software engineers, solutions architect, product managers and many more. It was truly the full hands on experience that gave me an entirely new outlook and perspective into software engineering. Not to mention, the extremely helpful and nice working staff and coworkers.
The challengesThe occasional personal difficulty with coding but other than that nothing of note.

The good thingsFree breakfast. Some training. Some sports club activities. Supportive colleagues. Comprehensive roadmap planned out by immediate boss.
The challengesKeep hiring short-sighted top management. What need to be done by Top management is not done instead trying to play hero and show accountability and take credit of the achievement.

Great opportunity to learn and grow!
The good thingsThe environment around is very healthy and positive. Colleagues from the other teams do smile and communicate. The marketing team is da best team and the manager is a wonderful person to work with. Very supportive and helpful. Opinions and feedback are always welcomed and considered. Benefits: Lots of food, snacks, and birthday lunches. Free breakfast every morning to start the day with energy.
The challengesNothing major, except for language barriers (Only at times) as the majority are Chinese-speaking natives. It's definitely a plus if you are able to speak Mandarin.

Work life balance, you may go to office at anytime as long as you are able to deliver the results.
The good thingsManagement is more appreciate on your deliverable than how you do it to achieve the results. Hence, this is more efficient than conventional way.
The challengesThe management is more towards Chinaman style. They value profit more than internal works improvement.

The good things- Flexility - Nice team mate - Free breakfast
The challenges1. If the problem does not generate revenue then its not a priority even if the problem cause inconvenient to customer and employee have to apologize to customer everytime 2. System crash multiple times a year. Poor and outdated system. Work become manual and slow 3. No structured SOP. 4. Lack of clear direction. Whatever competitor is doing, company will follow. 5. Phrase can be heard everyday is 'no budget'

Good for Freshers, Bad for Experienced
The good things1. Office breakfast. 2. Monthly birthday celebration and office lunch.
The challengesTop management. They never realise the value an employee brings to the company. They often not listen to what the staff have to say, but insist on things to be done their way. Sometimes no need to bring brain to work, just follow what is instructed. Poor company benefits - low medical coverage and below industry average annual leave.

    Thanks for the memories
The good thingsGood immediate bosses, nice bunch of colleagues, There’s always food in pantry and breakfast.
The challenges- The higher management has no idea how business should be and will always use its position as founder to highlight every single error raised by customer/merchant as crisis creating unnecessary issue. Be close to them and get a nice bonus 👍🏼 - A company that focuses on customer on boarding rather than customer retention. By promising every features to merchants without proper knowledge or it’s function. Once on board, enjoy the message “apologies for the delay”. As company has discontinued performance monitoring, we call is manually monitored to cut cost. - An established company without any SOP, enjoy the competency of an analyst that doesn’t read or understands business requirement and products. - A company that doesn’t value its workers and don’t expect the latest being used.

    Misdirection by management
The good thingsFriendly working environment, free breakfast everyday, great boss, sports club activities
The challengesManagement doesn't really know how to manage a company. They focused on sale rather than improving the platform. The platform is still using legacy system and can barely support any new features. Even worse, they cut cost on the entire IT department (low salary increment, no bonus for certain people, remove monitoring system) while still asking IT to support 24/7 and add in new features along the way. That's iPay88 management in a nutshell.
