Good learning experience, but affected by weak leadership, poor site support, and lack of strong sft
The good thingsThe good things about MLG are the supportive working environment, teamwork, and opportunities to learn new skills. I have enjoyed working with different people, gaining experience on site, and improving my knowledge in safety and operations. However, at times the workload can be challenging and communication could be improved in some areas. Despite that, it has still been a valuable experience that helped me grow professionally.
The challengesThere have been several challenges during my time at MLG, particularly in relation to site support, management leadership, and the overall safety culture. Site operations support has often felt limited, with many responsibilities being shifted to safety personnel, including logistics coordination, material arrangement, and general site oversight, which goes beyond the normal scope of HSE duties. This creates difficulty in focusing fully on core safety management responsibilities. In terms of HSE leadership, there appears to be a lack of strong leadership qualities such as guidance, mentoring, problem-solving, and the ability to build teamwork across departments. Effective HSE leadership should inspire confidence, encourage open communication, and provide practical solutions, but there have been occasions where this has been lacking. There is also room for improvement in technical knowledge, competency, and a more open-minded approach when receiving feedback or different opinions.
