Really good experience and enjoyed working at Hall facilities
The good thingsFriendly staffs and colleagues who really worked as a team. Many friendly and helpful encounter with students, professors, staffs and contractors that defines my NTU experience. Makes me feel like part of the NTU OCH family and welcomed.
The challengesTime to upgrade digital key facilities as I feel it's quite old and breaks down often especially access to common area like toilets.

Luck might not play a big role in jobs but over here, it really matters who is your reporting supervisor or management is. Given that workflow processes are weak, departments are nice to each other superficially while bad mouthing behind closed doors and thus, you must be either really good at defending yourself or be in the 'inner circle' to be protected.
The good thingsNice working environment with lots of greenery and chill-out spaces
The challengesPoor process workflow and what could be straightforward tasks tend to be overdone unnecessarily due to micro-managing or just to show that it's a 'challenging task'. What seems to be commonly adopted practices in other commercial industries or associated govt establishments are 'new' here and while they openly 'welcome new ideas' - the resistance lies deep within and will surface when they're actually being raised. Also when things go wrong - it's common to see supervisors distancing themselves as far as possible, with their defensiveness a common trait here, more so in some schools than others.

Horrible. If one has other research opportunites, don't come to this place to work.
    The good thingsThe school environment
The challengesSuper bad management. Owed me salaries and money that I paid in advance longer than stated in contract. The research group that I worked with lacked research ethnics. The worst universities that I worked in so far.

    Toxic and unwelcomed environment
The good thingsThe work-life is very balance where you can easily leave for urgent family matters at notice
The challengesAlthough PhD qualification is to be respected but it is too glorified in it that only PhD is valued.

Very supportive and alot of opportunity for me to pick up new skills
The good thingsMy current boss is very supportive and always provides me with a channel to discuss with open communication on ad-hoc. Even when I just drop him a text over the weekend to just get his approval. He's always there for me. My boss is also willing to take my suggestion and give me the autonomy to complete my task. Not like my previous company N_HS, where I would need to schedule a meeting slot then I can meet up with my boss for a discussion.
The challengesManpower is super lean. So I am doing a three-man role. Proper deadline planning is required so the task can be completed on time. I do require to work at night at times when the deadline is short but my boss is always there to help too. I'm blessed.

    Poor Managements, Work overloaded
The good things1. Lushy Green environment 2. Flex benefits & insurance coverage 3. Well-know University
The challenges1. No work-life balance. Work overloaded and need to OT almost everyday including weekend. 2. Well known University but with old system and software. Just started to implement new system and upgrade the system in 2-3 years back. 3. Off peak month falls only in June-July and Nov-Dec. 4. Pretty stressful, required to work more than expected.

Disappointed with Top Management and School Management. Good for Retiree
The good things- Work Life Balance if you have well balanced portfolio. - Previous role in HR, no Work Life Balance, OT everyday. Have to bring home to do also. On Leave and MC also must work. So much work, yet direct reporting officer also does not see it.
The challenges- Top Management is blind - The so-called Managers/Directors does not have problem solving skills, not daring to make decision. - A LOT of backlogs if you are unlucky. Took me 4 months to clear with OT. And unexpectedly always having something from the previous year popping up for actions required. - Everywhere needs Cert. People does your salary according to cert + experience and not your capability.

Can be a better environment if management changes
The good thingsDecent benefits, some good colleagues. Facilities are under-utilized so accessibility not an issue.
The challengesAdministrative staff may be helpful, is a hit or miss depending on who you get. Management needs overhaul as sycophants are strongly encouraged and rewarded even when certain rules and regulations are broken.
