Too old for GenY & GenZ, suitable for waiting-to-retire engineers
The good things- Opportunity to involve in large infrastructure project - Less stressful, one will not be forced to do work if he/she is not willing to. - Good to join if you are waiting to retire
The challenges- No internet access - Mismanagement - No appreciation of works done - A large civil firm that relies heavily on its past projects, there's no innovation in the design, no value added - Low salary and NO benefit at all

    Terrible management and poor benefits
The good thingsGood colleagues. It is great as your jump start career with good amount of basic salary compare to other company.
The challengesDepends on which department you been located. Some department doesnt appreciate how much you have done. A small mistake is a valid reason for the management level to retain your bonus and increment, despite how much effort you have done. Sometime you will need to do director's personal stuff. Management expect you OT everyday even though you have finished your work. Poor management and benefits. Slow development of career and less increment.

Experience in most infrastructure works from design, planning to site works, quality control, documentation control and contract management.
The good thingsThe company has a big engineering set up and support for the site supervisory staff.
The challengesFriendly and cooperative environment for a joint effort in team works especially ideal for engineering works, more so for mega projects. Good for gaining experience and knowledge.

    Structural design engineer
    May 2017
1 to 2 years in the role, current employee
Good starting point for your career
The good things[From a structural department]: Exposed to big projects (MRT, etc) that are good for CV. Helpful mentors and friendly colleagues. Inter-department relationship is good too. Not too stressful and workload is acceptable (from a junior engineer pov). Can gain a lot of design knowledge. Location is out of city center, which means less traffic.
The challengesRemuneration is average or near the low end. Big projects require close coordination which can be troublesome. Career advancement is slow. Limited perks. Internet access is only for managerial level and above which is sometimes constricting.

    Good working ethics
The good thingsWe are the consultant for the MRT project for Line 2. It has been a great challenge to work with this company as we are the lead consultant for all the main contractors such as Sunway Construction, Ahamd Zaki Sdn Bhd and IJM. Good coordination with HQ staffs in resolving issues pertaining construction drawing and shop drawings. Good knowledgeable people to work with.
The challengesMore perks and rewarding salary. More correspondence with MRT Corp to give the employees greater employment opportunity. Better working environment as we are working at site office. Look into employees benefits.

Good place for graduate engineer to start their career.
The good thingsGood facility especially its library. Young engineer can refer to its vast collection of engineering references. Young engineer can learn on ISO management in this company.
The challengesLack of senior engineer to guide graduate engineer. Young engineer who are able to work with less supervision would perform better.

    Internship at SSP
The good thingsGood opportunity to get exposure to the working world, with friendly and helpful colleagues. Although only an intern, was given a chance to be involved with the ongoing projects. Was also assigned to a fellow engineer as a mentor, being able to follow him to site and meet with clients. i was able to gain experience in design, consulting and applications.
The challengesCertain systems in placed were rigid and did not work very well. Not all colleagues were supportive or helpful in my learning experience there. Better pay and package would have been an advantage as well.

    SSP and me..
The good thingsWorking environment is much more of a learning environment here. and I enjoy learning all sort of things. It made me feel confident about myself.
The challengesTo meet up the deadlines, of course. But that is something very common in this area of industry (construction). But it made me able to work under the pressure. So the challenges built my character and they are good.

    Fresh entry experience
The good thingsWell experienced seniors whom are always helpfull in sharing their knowledge in their work field. Good exposure to the field of engineering consultancy and all the available professional courses needed. In long term, a wide range of benefits can be experienced. Performance based increments and bonuses. Good group of colleagues.
The challengesA well planned system to enable fresh entries to learn on the design stuffs and various aspects of works rather than just being focused on single work scope. This is to enable the freshies to grab on to the field which they excel the most and they would love to explore.
