Great place place for entry level experience
The good thingsStaff benefits are good. Team work is like family working together. Great for new job seekers / entry level.
The challengesPoor direction from Management. No room for career growth. Politics at higher management. Promotion is among top management only. Either you are favored and climb up the corporate ladder, else you'll be doing the same things over and over again. Very low salary package & increment.

    Good exposure to Sales
The good thingsThe company, SGS is certainly a great place to kickstart your career in Sales. As a junior sales executive, I had the opportunity to communicate and liaise with clients & vendors from various industries in an effort to cross-sell related inspection, testing and certifications services. I also learned and understood method of cold calling, closing a sale, meeting the sales target and defining the ISO standards and ASTM regulations Despite having to work from home, the company placed great emphasis on the well being of their employees by organizing weekly catch up sessions, product knowledge meetings and etc. This has definitely kept me motivated and strengthen the relationship with my colleagues.
The challengesThere are none that I could think of at the moment. At times the job can be a bit stressful especially having to meet the client requirements and sales target.

The good thingsminimum supervision, flexible work hours, great supervisors, a lot of training opportunities, a lot of independence. Great if you already know what to do and like to work independent of others.
The challengesthe salary is average in my opinion. laptop could be improved. each km mileage claim could be improved. healthcare benefit could be improved.

    Mar 2019

    Short live employment
The good thingsA lot of free time.
The challengesThe organization for new employee onboarding could be made a lot better. Starting from working, there are no SOP to follow on what should an employee know about his/her work. It is like going on a battle field without preparation. Additionally, it took more than 1 months to set up your company email, more than 2 months to set up your claim system. You have to persistently asked for it which is ludicrous. There are no connection between employee and their reporting manager by which till now, I don't even know the face of my reporting manager. SGS boast itself as a great platform to boost your career or a great company to work for but there should be an asterisk with line 'depending on terms & conditions'. It took me one month to realize that SGS is not a best place to work by the organization alone and began looking for other job. It did not provide me the challenges which they said they have and it is not great for those who like to have their expertise challenged. Luckily I did find other job and in the end, I ended my tenure during my probation and began working with this other company. I did offer to give some recommendations but I guess SGS is too good for that.

    Microbiologist

This review is solely for Microbiology Lab
The good things- PPE is provided by employer - Flexible in terms of leave request (this is however subjected to manpower available at the time of request) - Steep learning curve as broad parameters offered means you get to learn a whole lot of skills in short amount of time - External and internal trainings provided (this could be a con however if your team is small and there's a critical shortage of manpower)
The challenges- Low OT rate (OT rate for public holiday is only 2x normal rate) - You NEED to be able to work on public holidays (yes that means sacrificing whatever kind of plans you already made) and work long hours (~10 hrs/day) - Small team + huge workload = constant shortage of manpower - Micromanagement makes you feel like being treated as a child rather than a working adult - Less than attractive benefits - No work life balance - focus is solely on work, no community service, team building etc (least not for lab staff). Expect 24/7 factory kind of work condition. - Working with bacteria for long hours means you might fall sick quite often than not, but if your body immunity is strong this should not be a problem
