Overall, my experience is intellectually rewarding, significantly strengthened my skills.
The good thingsUniversiti Malaya offers a highly conducive academic environment supported by well-structured, clean, and technologically advanced laboratories within the Faculty of Engineering. The university fosters a vibrant, multi-diverse culture where students and researchers from various backgrounds collaborate and exchange ideas freely. Moreover, the supportive and approachable academic community encourages innovation, critical thinking, and professional growth across all disciplines.
The challengesAdapting to a highly research-oriented environment required strong self-discipline and continuous technical learning. Moreover, managing multiple research and teaching responsibilities also challenging but it will enhance time management and problem-solving abilities.

Low-stress working environment. Government agency with autonomy.
The good thingsNice working environment. Easy access by public transport. Cheap food is easy to find. Low stress work environment. Easy inter-department communications. Contract positions are usually available from various departments, despite it is not good to jump around, but it is a good option in order to get better salary or working environment.
The challengesClimbing a career ladder would be a slow process. Since the staff turnover is low (especially among the permanent and long-term contract staffs), climbing to better/position would be a challenge. However, it is not impossible, since the university is a pretty big organization. The opportunity is everywhere in the university, just try to look for better positions in other department too, from time to time. However, permanent job depends on opening by the government.
