Great team, good support, high expectationsThe good thingsWe were paid well given the general cost of living in the town. Staff benefits like medical, various allowances were good too. I had a lot of respect for some of my colleagues, whose professionalism and expertise inspired me. We all really did our best for the students, and I liked that.
The challengesTeaching is hard work, and the hours are longer than public schools. Personally, it was a challenge for me to keep going after a few years, I don't know how the longer-serving staff do it -- the expectations are high. I wish the school had not designed their classrooms in such a way that they are hard to keep cool without air-conditioning, I think the savings on electricity might have gone into lower fees and/or higher salaries. I also found it challenging communicating with administrative staff, as I sometimes felt they did not understand our perspective, especially expectations of student behaviour.
