Upper levels do not understand the works done by technical team and deemed us not important to the projects (as a proof, a lot senior engineers have their contracts terminated)
The good thingsPerks are quite ok. Employees are entitled to 14 annual leaves + 1 birthday leave (claimable during birthday month). Also a basic medical insurance. In addition to RM500 annual health checkup, RM400 annual dental checkup, RM400 annual optometry checkup. But the bad side weighted the good ones out.
The challengesDue to bad project management skills, technical staff barely had any work-life balance, sometimes even work past midnights. Technical staffs also required to work on weekends & public holidays. OT claims which the technical staffs are eligible to claim, went unapproved. Cheapskate employer reluctant to pay employees for giving out the extra work hours, just so that more money goes right into their (employer & upper management levels) own pockets.

The good thingsExcellent learning opportunities available, ability to express creativity, be independent in working capacity, flexibility in doing the job.

    Overall Comment on ZTE Malaysia
The good thingsSalary adjustments were promising but triggered by poor annual & performance bonus allocation to staff.
The challengesProcess management and people management needed to be improved. Localisation needed to be enhanced in order to prevent the heavy dependency on China HQ or China staff.

The good thingsI enjoyed being independent, working from almost anywhere as long as I can access the internet. ZTE is dynamic and fast growing company that has made its presence throughout the world in record time. At its pace of innovation and sales drive, ZTE will continue to grow and be among the best in the international telecoms vendors' arena.
The challengesThe meeting of ZTE's customer's KRA and aspirations were not lacking in shortcomings. This especially so in the commitment of ZTE's subcontractors at hand. I would like to see more legally binding and effective terms and conditions to act on for the subcontractors to abide by.
