Systems Engineer (Data Centre Operations)
Job Purpose:
Responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of both critical and non-critical systems. This includes monitoring service availability, managing resource utilization, troubleshooting issues, optimizing system performance, implementing data backup strategies, ensuring redundancy, and coordinating IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) exercises to minimize downtime.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support, maintain, and administer services hosted at the Data Centre, including Email, Databases, DNS, Web services, LDAP, etc.
- Proactively ensure the highest level of Data Centre service availability by troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, taking ownership of problems, and following up accordingly.
- Coordinate with various parties, teams, or vendors during service outages. Respond to incidents related to the Data Centre and manage escalations until resolution.
- Oversee system implementations at the Data Centre and assist in handling internal and external requests.
- Perform regular OS patching to ensure security and address vulnerabilities.
- Monitor system performance to prevent slowdowns and crashes.
- Identify and analyze system performance issues, working closely with various teams to recommend and implement remediation actions.
- Manage system user accounts and grant access privileges as required.
- Perform regular system backups, ensuring data integrity and enabling quick recovery in case of failures.
- Monitor and maintain backup schedules, troubleshoot failures, and optimize storage solutions.
- Coordinate IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) exercises to validate system resilience and business continuity plans.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely recovery of critical systems and address any gaps in disaster recovery procedures.
Minimum Years of Work Experience:
A fresh graduate is acceptable.
Academic Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Networking.
Special Requirements:
On standby mode outside of working hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Good knowledge of Linux/Windows operating systems, cloud computing & hosting, web services, networking, server management & virtualization, storage, and backup.
- Basic knowledge of automation & scripting using Bash, Perl, PowerShell, etc.
