What's it like to be an Accounts Assistant?
An Accounts Assistant supports the accounting team by undertaking various administrative tasks. They assist with compiling and maintaining financial records, invoicing, processing tax returns, preparing company accounts, filing and other administrative tasks.
Tasks and duties
- Recording financial transactions.
- Maintaining and reconciling accounts.
- Preparing invoices and statements.
- Assisting with budget preparation.
- Managing accounts payable and receivable.
- Verifying and reconciling bank statements.
- Processing payroll and expense reports.
- Generating financial reports for management analysis.
- Assisting with audits and tax filings.
- Communicating with vendors and clients regarding payments and account balances.
How to become an Accounts Assistant
To work as an Accounts Assistant you must hold at least a Malaysian High School Certificate (STPM). However, some employers may also require a bachelor degree and additional certifications.

Complete at least a Malaysian High School Certificate (STPM) to start your career.

Gain experience and apply the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board sets.

To pursue higher roles, consider finishing a bachelor degree in accounting or finance management.

Pursue additional certifications or licences, such as becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), to help you grow professionally.
