They communicate with pilots to ensure smooth airborne traffic movement before a plane lands on an airport runway. To mitigate flight delays, air traffic controllers must know what is happening both on the ground and in the air. At times, they may also manage unscheduled inbound and outbound flights. They also inform pilots on the current weather situations and assist ground crews in managing runway traffic and emergency landings.Tasks and duties
- Keeping constant radio and radar contact with aircraft.
- Ensuring minimum distances are maintained between planes.
- Handling unexpected events, emergencies and unscheduled traffic.
- Providing weather updates and traffic information to pilots.
