How to become a Carpenter
To pursue a career in carpentry, a secondary school certificate or the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) is often required. You can learn from a variety of experiences, from small domestic jobs to working on construction sites. Getting an apprenticeship is an excellent way to gain experience.
- 1.Obtain the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) before applying for an apprenticeship. Apprenticeship programs usually last for about three to four years. During this time, you will learn a basic understanding about the nature of the work, safety, freehand sketching, mathematics and a number of carpentry techniques. After completing the apprenticeship, you can either obtain a certification, enroll in trade school, or pursue other vocational schooling.
- 2.If you wish to obtain a certification, you need to complete a Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery. You will also be required to undergo training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
- 3.Employment opportunities are available in construction companies or on commercial and residential properties. You can also become a sole-proprietor.
