What's it like to be a Cleaner?
Almost every industry requires Cleaners who can maintain the cleanliness of work environments. Cleaners need to have excellent attention to detail and perform a range of duties that can vary depending on where they are employed. If a cleaner works in a school or a hospital, following the premises’ guidelines are very important. Cleaners can also do additional tasks outside of their usual cleaning services, like special care cleaning of ornaments, specific decluttering and polishing of silver or brass.
Tasks and duties
- Cleaning designated facility areas by sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, dusting, and polishing.
- Notifying management about defects in hardware or amenities and their necessary repairs.
- Restocking supplies such as toilet paper and paper towels.
- Vacuuming and polishing areas.
- Transporting dirty linens to the laundry area.
- Assisting other departments to maximise efficiency in servicing guests.
How to become a Cleaner
You don’t need a qualification to become a Cleaner. On-the-job training is usually provided.
- 1.Most employers may require a secondary school certificate or the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) but not necessary. You will most likely be trained on-the-job.
- 2.Depending on the role you’re aiming for, there may be other requirements. Team leaders in a cleaning service crew may be expected to have a college education or several years of prior experience.
