Instructors must also possess a high level of driving skills and are advised to have a few years of experience prior to their driving instructor careers.

- Communicating lessons in a clear and concise manner.
- Teaching theory about driving to students.
- Supervising practical driving examinations.
- Providing instructions on the basic parts and functions of a vehicle.
- Tracking and recording students’ progress, and letting them know when they are ready to take the driver’s test.
- Answering any questions from student drivers.
- Developing a student’s confidence and aptitude at driving.
- Helping students calm down in stressful situations.
- Taking control of the vehicle during practical examinations in case there is an emergency or impending accident.
