Financial Officers are responsible for the financial health of an organisation. They deal with audits, invoices, banking transactions, and budget preparations, and analyse costs and sales results. Finance Officers make sure records and transactions are accurate and current.Financial Officers directly support the Financial Manager and ensure that employees adhere to financial processes. They provide financial advice and support to upper management.Tasks and duties
- Keeping accurate records and receipts of daily transactions.
- Processing invoices.
- Recording accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Handling banking activities.
- Implementing financial policies.
- Preparing financial reports.
- Participating in financial audits.
- Assisting in budget preparation.
How to become a Financial Officer
To become a Financial Officer, you need to have at least five years of relevant experience in finance and accounting.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in finance, accounting, or business.
- 2.Gain at least five years experience as an Analyst or Accountant in a private company, bank, or accounting firm so you can learn more about taxation and accounting practices.
- 3.Earn a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification. Being a CPA is not a requirement to become a Financial Officer but is an advantage in getting hired and promoted. To be a CPA, you need additional education and pass a qualifying exam.
