What's it like to be a Process Technician?
Process Technicians monitor manufacturing operations for improvements in a plant’s efficiency, costs and schedule. They work closely with Industrial Engineers to improve and create new designs for manufacturing workflow. Process Technicians work in healthcare, food and beverage, mining, and textile plants. Working as a Process Technician may involve working long and irregular hours. Process Technicians with a proven track record of excellent performance may be promoted to supervisory and managerial roles.
Tasks and duties
- Examining and operating factory equipment.
- Inspecting product quality.
- Overseeing manufacturing operations.
- Identifying areas for optimisation and providing suggestions to management.
- Ensuring factory compliance with safety and quality protocols.
- Troubleshooting machine issues and reporting malfunctions.
How to become a Process Technician
To work as a Process Technician a technical diploma is usually required.

Complete a Diploma in Engineering Technology (Process Instrumentation and Control). Diploma courses take about 3 years to finish.

Gain experience in factories by taking on an apprenticeship.

Consider completing a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering.
