What's it like to be a Production Assistant?
Production Assistants play an important role in making a set flow smoothly. They perform a wide variety of tasks on a television or film set. Depending on the size of the production, Production Assistants can work as a field production assistant to assist during the shoot itself, an office production assistant to perform clerical work, and as a post-production assistant to organise and help finish the project after filming.Tasks and duties
- Preparing the studio for live productions and filming sessions, such as setting up lights, props and equipment.
- Instructing the audience how to react if there is a live show.
- Collaborating with on-air talents, audience members, and other production staff members for a successful production.
- Undertaking crowd control, locking down sets, and installing signs.
- Escorting actors to and from their trailers.
- Handling hard drives of footage and delivering it to the editors.
- Distributing scripts.
How to become a Production Assistant
There are no formal qualifications necessary to become a Production Assistant. In this career, experience is key to work your way up the industry.
- 1.Complete a secondary school certificate or a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). This is the minimal requirement for most recruiters.
- 2.A degree in film, television production, or communications, while not necessary, can be helpful in introducing you to the basic components of a set.

- 5.Consider obtaining a diploma in screen media if you’re after managerial roles.
