What's it like to be a Sales and Marketing Executive?
Sales and Marketing Executives are tasked with driving awareness and sales for a company’s products or services by researching, implementing and monitoring marketing plans. They research trends to inform their strategies that can include advertising, public relations, product development and other promotional activities. Sales and Marketing Executives often work closely with sales teams aligning their tactics with the goals of a business. They usually operate within a team, often liaising with product managers, new and existing clients, market research staff and advertising agencies to drive a coordinated effort. This role can span across various industries, from technology and finance to retail and healthcare.
Tasks and duties
- Developing and implementing effective sales and marketing strategies to drive sales.
- Coordinating with internal teams to develop and monitor strategic marketing initiatives.
- Analysing and reporting on the effectiveness of marketing outcomes to senior executives.
- Researching industry trends and market behaviour to identify sales opportunities.
- Establishing and fostering partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders.
- Presenting regular updates and information to other department heads and executives.
How to become a Sales and Marketing Executive
At least a diploma is required for the role. Candidates are expected to possess interpersonal and persuasion skills.
- Complete a diploma or bachelor degree in sales and marketing, business management, or another related field.
- Gain sales and marketing experience by starting a small business, working freelance as an agent, or participating as a merchant at events.
- Get an entry-level job such as Marketing Assistant or Sales Associate.
- Consider taking a sales training course.
- Maintain a sales network and keep up to date on industry trends.
