An entry-level role on a sales team, Sales Assistants work in a variety of industries, which dictate their specific duties. However, their typical tasks include assisting customers, promoting products, and arranging stocks. Sales Assistants need in-depth knowledge of company products, so they can better sell them. Their services include helping shoppers locate and test products, facilitating transactions, and assisting customers in carrying and loading their purchases. Being friendly and inquisitive also helps them provide good sales services to ensure customer satisfaction.Tasks and duties
- Greeting customers and assisting them in making purchases.
- Identifying customers’ needs and matching these with available products or services.
- Advising customers on promotions, purchase policies, and new offers.
- Staying updated on the store’s evolving products.
- Maintaining the store’s neatness and arranging displays.
- Ensuring that the store is well-stocked.
- Receiving and organising new deliveries.
How to become a Sales Assistant
Sales Assistants have strong sales ability, which they mostly learn on the job. Good maths, writing, reading and comprehension skills are needed to perform tasks well.
- 1.Finish at least secondary education and attain Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). This will give you the educational foundation to succeed in this role.
- 2.As this is an entry-level role, you don’t need prior work experience. However, you should learn as much as you can from your training to hone your skills and knowledge.
- 3.To advance your career, it’s best to finish tertiary education. You can progress to senior sales associate, sales manager, assistant store manager, then store manager.
