Solutions Consultants engage with customers to understand their needs then use their expertise in business processes and project management to advise businesses on strategic, operational, and technical issues to address these needs. Consultants liaise with the different departments and work with stakeholders to define requirements and success criteria. Finally, they craft and communicate functional or technical solutions to meet these requirements.Tasks and duties
- Liaising with product management, engineering, services, marketing, and support teams.
- Meeting with stakeholders and discussing expectations and success metrics.
- Conducting interviews and workshops with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the development team.
- Understanding customer needs.
- Identifying strategic or technical issues.
- Communicating strategy and objectives.
- Designing and engineering adaptations of products and services to address customer needs.
- Advising on resource planning, vendor management, and outsourcing.
- Reporting on project progress.
- Providing cost estimates.
- Briefing and providing training on proposed solutions.
- Documenting business requirements, use cases, processes, and applications to technical solutions.
How to become a Solutions Consultant
To become a Solutions Consultant, you need a strong educational background as well as industry experience.
- 1.Complete a bachelor and masters degree in the field you want to specialise in. Degrees in business, computer science, engineering, accounting, education, design, or marketing can lead to careers in consulting.
- 2.Gain relevant experience and establish a strong network. Employers usually look for a minimum of five years of experience and strong technical skills.
