What's it like to be a Superintendent?
Superintendents are responsible for monitoring a project’s development and ensuring that deadlines, quotas, and outputs are met. Superintendents can work in construction, manufacturing, or any other industry that requires quality control. For example, a Construction Superintendent would be in charge of overseeing the safety of on-site workers and making sure construction is on schedule. Meanwhile, a Production Superintendent would be tasked with monitoring produced goods and making sure daily output targets are met.
Tasks and duties
- Monitoring and managing teams of employees.
- Overseeing project development.
- Assuring products or projects are completed before the deadline.
- Following a project’s timeline and ensuring all steps and procedures are on time.
- Ensuring safety compliance and orderliness.
- Overseeing quality control and quality assurance.
- Procuring materials and equipment needed on site.
- Producing daily field reports.
- Working closely with production managers or project managers.
- Keeping up to date with industry standards and safety protocols.
- Identifying problems in production and providing swift solutions.
An average day for a Superintendent would typically start with creating a list of items and departments to check, and then making the rounds to ensure all employees are complying with safety protocols, producing quality outputs, and keeping up with the schedule. Superintendents should be proactive, output-oriented, meticulous, and strong leaders.
How to become a Superintendent
