What's it like to be a Project Engineer?
Project Engineers assist with the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing and managing of technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. They establish inspection criteria for the proper implementation of all project elements. They have the ability to work with various discipline projects. Project Engineers are excellent at supervision, organisation, time management, and decision-making.Tasks and duties
- Overseeing all relevant safety objectives and managing all legal requisites.
- Interpreting clients' conditions, needs and requirements and representing them in the field.
- Identifying technical issues and ensuring all of them are properly addressed.
- Evaluating, organising, and prioritising workload within a schedule.
- Performing quality control tasks on budgets, schedules, plans, and personnel performance to report on the project's status.
- Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
- Taking charge of a team of engineers.
How to become a Project Engineer
Although the requirements for being a Project Engineer vary, the general requirement is a completion of a four-year college degree with a major in engineering or civil engineering.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in engineering, engineering management or civil engineering. These are the most common degrees to become a Project Engineer.
- 2.If you aspire to become a Project Engineer, register with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Graduate Engineers and Professional Engineers registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia are entitled to practice engineering in Malaysia.
- 3.Obtain a minimum of three years work experience. In most cases, you are mostly working in the construction industry. However, depending on your skills, knowledge and preferences, you can choose to advance to different positions and focus on a different aspect of a construction project.
- 4.Pass all the Professional Examinations administered by the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
