What's it like to be a Training Manager?
A Training Manager is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of employee training in a business or organisation. They'll plan, organise and implement a wide range of training activities, including induction for new staff, ongoing professional development for existing staff, and improvement strategies for underperforming personnel. Training Managers are commonly found in sectors such as retail, healthcare, hospitality, and government, where staff retention and development are key components of an organisation's success. This role might involve using a variety of learning modalities, from traditional classroom training to e-learning and interactive simulations.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying training needs within a company by consulting with stakeholders and observing operations.
- Designing and developing training programs in consultation with various departmental heads.
- Managing budgets for training programs, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost-effectiveness.
- Creating and executing learning strategies and programs.
- Evaluating training programs and return on investment, offering detailed reports to higher management.
- Engaging with trainers and organising both on-the-job and off-the-job training for employees.
- Keeping abreast of training trends, advancements and best practices, implementing the relevant ones within a company's training framework.
How to become a Training Manager
At least a diploma and years of industry experience are required for the role.
- 1.Graduate with a diploma or degree in human resources, business administration, education or another related field.
- 2.Undergo an internship in a training and development or human resources department.
- 3.Get an entry-level job such as Training Officer or Learning and Development Specialist.
- 4.Consider getting qualification such as Certified Training and Development Manager.
