The challengesAPA Group has reversed much of the progress it made around 2022, slipping back into a closed, outdated, and bureaucratic way of working. Collaboration between business and IT has deteriorated, replaced by slow, opaque decision-making driven more by politics than outcomes. Leadership now appears to value influence, negotiation, and presentation over actual delivery and technical capability.
Outsourcing has become excessive, weakening internal expertise and accountability while creating a disconnect between strategy and execution. At the same time, many of the organisation’s most reliable and capable employees have left or been pushed out, often due to budget or political reasons rather than performance.
My own experience was isolating, working in a poorly supported stream with no clear direction. Ultimately, I was forced out due to leadership’s inability to define or manage its own products, reflecting a broader failure in IT delivery leadership.
