Undervalues people doing the real work
    The good thingsLocation and facilities
The challengesAPA Group has reversed much of the progress it made around 2022, slipping back into a closed, outdated, and bureaucratic way of working. Collaboration between business and IT has deteriorated, replaced by slow, opaque decision-making driven more by politics than outcomes. Leadership now appears to value influence, negotiation, and presentation over actual delivery and technical capability. Outsourcing has become excessive, weakening internal expertise and accountability while creating a disconnect between strategy and execution. At the same time, many of the organisation’s most reliable and capable employees have left or been pushed out, often due to budget or political reasons rather than performance. My own experience was isolating, working in a poorly supported stream with no clear direction. Ultimately, I was forced out due to leadership’s inability to define or manage its own products, reflecting a broader failure in IT delivery leadership.

Not seen a worse executive leadership cohort in my career.
The good thingsGood office location and amenities.
The challengesI had a very disappointing experience with APA. The biggest issue is the lack of competent leadership-there appears to be a serious disconnect between executives, general management, and what is actually happening on the ground. Decisions feel poorly thought out and often create more problems than they solve. Communication from management is unclear and inconsistent, which leads to confusion, inefficiency, and frustration for both customers and staff. There is also a noticeable lack of accountability. When issues arise, they are either ignored or pushed around without resolution. Instead of addressing problems directly, management seems more focused on maintaining appearances than delivering real improvements. Overall, the leadership culture here reflects poor organization, weak oversight, and a disregard for the people who rely on the company’s services. I would not recommend this company based on my experience.

Great for 14 years and now it’s changed for the worse and will never be the same, a toxic company!
The good thingsAPA used to be a fantastic place to work for 14 of my 15 years and now it’s terrible.
The challengesWhere would I start. IRS a toxic environment now where management have changed (especially in infrastructure delivery) and they are changing for the worse. I’m so glad to be out of there as it’s a horrible environment. The only thing APA could do to improve is the board sack the MD and all of the ELT, change their strategy and get back to what they are good at, being gas pipelines and facilities. The management at a senior level don’t know what they are doing and they have destroyed a great company. I recommend no one ever work for APA if you are sane.

It used to be a good place.
The good thingsGood team leads, supportive co-workers, and flexibility in working.
The challengesThe GMs and executives above them are completely cut off from what is happening below. All they care about is cutting people off; no matter how long you have worked there, they restructure and start letting people go as if you mean nothing. It could have been handled better. Upper management keeps to themselves and does not even meet or greet employees.

Never come across a more deceitful bunch of middle management in my life.
The good thingsThey say the right things and give the impression they are fair and ethical.
The challengesThey need to do what they say they will do. Management is not to be trusted.

Used to be a great company to work for, but not anymore.
    The good thingsSome good colleagues.
The challengesManagement no longer lives by the organisation’s behaviours, and trust and morale are at an all‑time low. The culture is toxic! There is clear nepotism, with management promoting friends and preferred colleagues instead of recognising and developing highly qualified existing staff. Policies are treated as a compliance tick‑box exercise and are not reflected in how work is actually carried out.

The challenges Board and ELT who are driven totally by the Share Price, this is now 100% a Finance Company. Programs introduced to continually push staff to and beyond their limits and what they are recompensed for. Recent re-structure has exposed the business to a genuine lack of retained knowledge of critical infrastructure. If there is a serious incident or issue they will struggle to correctly and safely manage it. Basic IT infrastructure continually fails with a grossly undermanned ground level of IT support. Will spend $Millions on flashy new offices but retain 10 year old office equipment. This used to be a fun, efficient and enjoyable place to work, it is now a very sad, stressful and forlorn workplace. For the sake of your sanity, don't consider working here.

Run from this company as fast as you can.
The good thingsWork from Home , Some lower level Manger where good and great people in team.
The challengesUpper management having a clue what they were doing, Less silos in the workplace, Run the business like a Maintenance and product provider not a shareholder summit. recent restructure was a major failure by the GM level (Which was Larger than a country's Olympic team) and took out all the pivotal roles with no consultation of the Mangers that had a clue of what the company did. toxic culture of promoting the people with no idea of the role of field.

    Learned what-kind-of-leader-NOT-to-be thanks to APA
The good thingsFlexibile working and pay
The challengesYou will soon understand why the two pros stated are offered by the company - favouritism, bureaucracy akin to government orgs, poor leadership and shortsightedness by management, and gross disregard of employees's well being in favour of cultivating a culture of "yes-people" propping up leadership will clawback all the money and flexibility offered. There is a growing pool of people who are working with one foot already out the door waiting for the next best opportunity outside the business. Used to be a good place to work for that has gone down south in the past few years with new management and their nepotistic hires.

Management is only interested in the share price, people do not matter to this company.
The good things60% Work from home, some good people.
The challengesRecent restructure and staff cuts have not made this a nice place to work. The wrong people were kept for management roles, and upper management do not have a clue, with their top priority being politically correctness and buying up assets. Every group does things their own way, and a lot of systems are just broken. IT requests disappear into a black hole, and if you do get a response, the answer is usually 'NO'. It is basically chaos. A lot of companies I have worked for say their people are their best assets. I have never heard this at APA .

Keep this company as your last option, as the adaptability of people is low; they wish to work in silo, are unproductive and do not wish to get pushed.
The good thingsIt's a nice brand and suitable for job security.
The challengesA toxic culture exists where people are not adaptable and are not aligned with the company's vision and mission.

Please take your creativity and your talents somewhere they will be appreciated and encouraged.
The good thingsFlexible work, I guess? Some good colleagues.
The challengesWhere to begin? Management is completely disconnected from the employees. There is a high amount of turn-over because of this. The workload was ridiculous for the amount of employees that are there. And because management is so obsessed with maximizing projects.

Not-so-great experience- This company is struggling to change with time, and outdated working systems and principles. While there is an effort to adapt to a changing environment, resistance from within prevents meaningful progress.
The good thingsHybrid working arrangement- That's the only good thing.
The challengesLack of support from higher management, with little to no concern for employee growth or development. The workplace culture is heavily influenced by office politics, and instances of unfair treatment can be observed.

A toxic workplace culture marked by frequent restructures, incompetent management, overlooked harmful behaviours, punitive responses to raising concerns, and a lack of genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The good thingsGood colleagues, flexible working.
The challengesStrategy is non-existent, YOLOing from one crisis to another. Gender is the only diversity conversation, it's a numbers game for the middle-managers. Incompetent managers known widely for toxic behaviors yet survive and thrive in APA.
