BC Academy is a learning centre for children and teenagers with special needs conditions such as GDD, ADHD, autism, dyspraxia and dyslexia, from the ages of 4 onwards. Our mission is to serve students with developmental delays in the areas of cognitive, gross motor, fine motor, language, social, emotional or academic. We believe that children and teenagers who find it difficult to fit into the mainstream education system have the potential to learn, improve and succeed if the right method, environment and attention are given to them.We are in the midst of expanding our team, and would like the potential individuals to join our organisation.

    Special Educational Needs Teacher

The challenges I faced at the school made me stronger, but I would definitely not return.
The good thingsThe good thing about this school is that the education, or rather the curriculum, is very systematic. The principal sets the curriculum or syllabus, and the teachers are responsible for executing the lessons and finding suitable materials to cater to the children’s needs. The school invests in providing quality education for the kids, and the teachers are equipped with numerous training sessions and workshops. Therefore, it is a great school for those who want to learn about special needs education or find the right materials to teach students. The principal also guides the teachers on how to teach children based on their individual levels.
The challengesThe challenges with this school are that no benefits are provided to the teachers. The school does not follow the Employment Act and instead creates its own rules and policies. For instance, when I worked at the school from 2016 to 2019, no medical leave was provided. When I had chickenpox, a natural illness, the school decided to deduct my salary for the days I was on medical leave. It was only in 2020 that the school introduced medical leave, but they still only offered 7 days per year, which barely complies with the Malaysian Employment Act. Another incident involved my colleague, who did not receive EPF contributions for over a year. It was only after she lodged a report with the Department of Labour (Buruh) that the school decided to pay her, and even then, only after she left the job. This company clearly does not adhere to the Malaysian Employment Act. Additionally, during COVID-19, the company did not reimburse teachers for transportation expenses when we had to travel to students' homes for home-based teaching. The principal gave an unreasonable explanation, claiming it was the same as traveling to school, which is certainly not true when we had to drive to two separate houses to teach the kids. The school takes advantage of its employees and provides no benefits to the staff.
