Amazing job satisfaction and a challenging but rewarding line of work.
The good thingsSince joining Global Peace, I can see progression in terms of the NGO's impact. We increased the number of beneficiaries and programs to provide a holistic 360 impact to the Orang Asli communities. In terms of work life balance, the management provides appropriate flexible working options, and this has been particularly important to me as a mother. Transitioning from a corporate job, it does require some adapting but sufficient space and support is provided for me to grow at my own pace.
The challengesIt’s been difficult balancing the needs of the community and what’s realistically available to execute given resource, timeline and budget constraints.

A good way to understand about yourself
The good thingsThe working culture here is great, especially when you are in the field. Each task given is always a learning curve, it's a fun process if you learn something out of it.
The challengesGood challenges to improve myself and the organization.

    An Impactful Experience
The good thingsThe cause behind the organisation is great and the whole team is easy to work with. The organisation runs on a mostly flat hierarchy, making it easier to communicate ideas and get feedback from everyone.
The challengesMinimal benefits but understandable as it's a non-profit organisation.

    Fruitful internship experience!
The good thingsInterning here in Global Peace was really a valuable experience to me. There were many opportunities for me to grow, and develop both hard skills and soft skills. My suggestions and feedbacks are always being heard and brought to further discuss. Everyone in the team was very helpful and kind during my time interning there. The projects and work have given me so much satisfaction and fulfilment. A really good place for people that embrace value-driven culture.
The challengesMight be challenging for people that need detailed orders and structure in work. But can ask if you need more information or not sure about something.

Poor management and no career advancement
The good thingsGreat relationship building built among fellow program officers, lots of roadtrips to Orang Asli villages. You are working directly on the ground with the beneficiaries and build meaningful relationship with the villagers.
The challengesThe management doesn't appreciate employee feedback, but see it as a personal attack. Very calculative management with almost zero employee benefit. Do expect to get burned out from the frequent long trips and heavy work load. In sum, no medical benefit, late salary payment, no increment & promotion. Employees are easily replaceable and that's why there is a high turnover rate.

Great team, lack of leadership and management oversight
The good thingsPositive team culture with meaningful work. The programme team's ultimate focus is always the beneficiaries. Good opportunity to manage and develop own programme.
The challengesThere was a clear lack of leadership and management oversight. Staff welfare could improve in many areas. HR issues needed to be prioritised, ie workplace policies and reporting mechanism. As a result, turnover rate is very high, on average less than one year.

I would no recommend working here but the team is amazing
The good thingsThe team that I worked with was great. Good support system within the team. It is all about teamwork!
The challengesThe organisation has bad management with only the CEO managing everything, no HR or admin. Yearly pay increment is almost non-existent with almost no benefits. It is understandable that the organisation is a ngo, hence the salary is low but the employee's welfare is very neglected. Projects are developed without proper planning and it was difficult to work with poor leadership skills within the organisation. There are no proper goals to work with for each projects - was very monetary oriented.
