Engineering Intern that trained under operations and maintenance division. The good thingsAs a chemical engineering intern under operations and maintenance I learned a lot during my short tenure there especially on site visits and through the assigned tasks. It was pretty much a condensed, easier version of the Metcalf and Eddy textbook especially in terms of learning various plant designs, operating parameters, biochemical treatment reactions, etc. Whenever they could all the engineers and technicians would take the time to show me around and explain the purpose related to technical works or anything and everything waste water related, of course I had to do a lot of my own reading as well. The experience really helped the fallowing year when I took my final year elective in waste water treatment.
The challengesI try not to focus on the negatives but in short I wish I could learn more by spending more time with my supervisors who were busy for the most part. I did feel like a bit of an misfit at times as there is a lack of diversity.
